About Me

Welcome!

My name is Raquel. I am from Puerto Rico, where I live with my couple and 2 kids.
I have always, since a teen, wanted to be able to be there for my kids, when I had them,
but that would require a Stay-at-Home job or something that let me manage my time own better.
In 2015, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Science of Art and Design of Video Games.
I worked with an indie video games group from 2015-2017, and also, as an robotics instructor with a franchise, that offers STEAM workshops for preschool and elementary students using Lego bricks.

What led me to create Gaming Mommy?

Working directly with kids, let me share the passion of gaming (either be video games or trading card games)
with lots of my students, because a lot of my STEAM students, and some of their parents also, love games.
Interacting with them, has sort of let me see, that some parents don’t know,
have a wrong concept of certain things, or some times, not care of what their kids play with.
My couple and I had the experience, a few times, of helping a confused parent around a store with something related to a game (video games or card games).
They felt we might be able to help them out because we were their and they didn’t know about it much.

In August 2017, we received the news that we were going to become parents to a baby girl which was due for late March 2018.
Wanting to be there for my baby, I decided to search for options, ending up deciding to start a blog.
Thinking on all of my experiences:

  • as a children instructor and speaking with their parents
  • as a future parent (back then)
  • as a gamer since childhood

All of that, led me to think on how could I try to help the parent community,
understand better the whole gaming world.
So, I wanted to create a blog that could be informative to parents that do not know much about video games or trading card games,
and bring a compilation of ideas that parents can look to for different inspiration for different reasons.
It can even become a community, where different parents can share their own stories, experiences and support.

A long pause.

Unfortunately, this blog got into a very long hiatus when I tried to start it in 2017.
In September 2017, Hurricane Maria made a disastrous impact on Puerto Rico ,
and I was in my first pregnancy at that time.
All the disaster and losses caused,
made the process to recover and get ready for our little girl’s arrival
very frustrating (plus hormonal changes did not help).
She arrived in the beginning of April 2018.

Then, 2020 received us with the Pandemic.
I couldn’t continue with my job as an robotics instructor,
since I had to stay with my 2 year old girl, by that time.
Being more at the house, I tried to finally launch Gaming Mommy.
Worked it up, and tried to do a launch, but I stopped again coming from time to time.
In February 2023, I had my second child, a baby boy.
New experiences and ideas are in the making.

After many high and low moments in life,
it is time to get out of the pause screen, retry, and continue the mission.
It is time to try to help, with different topics or with ideas.
Be it a gamer, parent, both or neither of them
you are very welcomed here at:
